How much does a business valuation cost?

Our fixed-price packages are Essential at $995, Comprehensive at $1,695, and Growth at $1,995. A Certified Business Valuation, used for partnership disputes, divorce, and IRS matters, is always custom-priced based on the situation.

How long does a business valuation take?

Your report is delivered 7–12 business days after we receive the financial information we need. The biggest variable is how quickly the documents come together, which is why Comprehensive and Growth include help gathering them.

What information do I need to provide?

Three years of financial statements. We use them to calculate a market-based valuation by benchmarking your business against others in your industry. If you are not sure what to send, the Comprehensive and Growth packages include white-glove help with documents and direct collaboration with your CPA.

What is the difference between fair market value and liquidation value?

Fair market value is what a willing buyer would reasonably pay a willing seller for the business as a going concern. Liquidation value is roughly what the business’s assets would bring if it closed and the assets were sold off. Every report includes both, so you can see the value the business adds as an operating company.

What is in the valuation report?

A detailed report, typically 20–30 pages: your business valued four ways (equity, asset, enterprise and liquidation value) with the multiples behind each; the gap to your exit goal; industry benchmark multiples from private-company sales; three years of financial trends; eight financial ratios compared with your industry, each with steps to improve; the effect of minority-interest discounts; and plain-language explanations of how valuation works.

Which package should I choose?

Essential fits owners who want a credible number and are comfortable reviewing the report and recorded video on their own. Comprehensive is the most complete option for owners preparing to sell or wanting expert guidance: it adds document help, a live results call, and recommendations to increase value. Growth adds a second strategy session six months later to check progress.

When do I need a Certified Business Valuation instead?

Choose a Certified Valuation when the number may be challenged or relied on by others: buying out a partner or shareholder, dividing a business in a divorce, or IRS matters such as gifting shares or estate planning. It is custom-priced; call or send a request for a quote.

Do you work with businesses in my state?

Yes. Valuations are delivered remotely by phone and video, so we work with business owners in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Valuations are handled discreetly, and your financial information is used only to prepare your valuation.

Do I have to sell my business through Vision Fox?

No. A valuation is a standalone service with no obligation. If you do decide to sell later, Vision Fox also offers business brokerage, and your valuation gives you a head start. If you list your business for sale with Vision Fox within 12 months of your valuation, we credit your valuation fee toward the commission (where Vision Fox provides brokerage).

Is there a free way to get a rough idea of my business’s value?

Yes. Our free business value estimator gives you a rough range in about two minutes, using what similar businesses in your industry actually sold for and four questions about your business. It is a starting point, not a valuation.

Who prepares the valuation?

Valuations are led by Mike Steward, founder of Vision Fox Business Advisors, a licensed business broker with more than 20 years of experience who has personally started, bought, sold, and franchised businesses.
